We’re halfway through February - yay! Boston is currently a big block of ice and I’m happy to see this month go by quickly.
Today I’ve got a 30-day challenge to help you boost the visibility of your LinkedIn profile.
I call it the “10 FOR 30” challenge and here’s how it goes:
LEAVE 10 COMMENTS A DAY FOR 30 DAYS
Why am I asking you to do this?
Because LinkedIn used to be a “set it and forget it site.” You posted your profile, ignored the site, and recruiters would reach out to you.
Not anymore.
LinkedIn changed its algorithm in 2023 and it now rewards two primary activities:
- Sharing knowledge
- Engaging with the platform
The more you engage with the platform = the higher you rank in search results = the more discoverable you are by recruiters and hiring managers.
And that doesn’t mean you should post more. Yes, I love posts and I have loads of tips about it (more next week), but most people I talk to are intimidated by writing posts or they simply hate the idea.
So I’ve got an easier way to work the algorithm: LEAVE COMMENTS. The algorithm loves comments and it boosts the visibility of your profile.
LEAVE 10 COMMENTS A DAY FOR 30 DAYS
I guarantee if you do this simple thing, your numbers will go up. You will get more profile views and exposure to your network.
And don’t just leave comments like “Thanks for sharing” or “Interesting.” Studies show that comments with 15+ words perform better. Try this formula:
1) Thank the person and tag them
2) Summarize a point from their post
3) Add your experience/takeaway point
4) BONUS: Ask a question
EXAMPLE: "Thanks for sharing, Emily! I agree that commenting on LinkedIn significantly boosts your profile. As soon as I started commenting more, I noticed an increase in views on my profile. What time of day do you think is best to be active on LinkedIn?"
On note: PLEASE don’t use AI. Or if you do use AI, please don’t copy + paste it verbatim. It’s clear when someone uses AI comments and it’s not a good look.
If you’re not used to commenting on LinkedIn, this will be hard at first. My top piece of advice: DON’T OVERTHINK IT. Any topic counts - the post you’re commenting on doesn’t have to be about your industry. You can congratulate people on new roles, support others who are looking for work, and comment on any post you find interesting or funny. It all counts in the 10 FOR 30 Challenge. As long as you’re commenting and engaging with the platform, you’re increasing profile views.
Are you ready to take the 10 FOR 30 challenge? Let’s go!
